Mag Nut :   This is our fall product sale where we sell Magazines and Nuts.  The girls make 15% profit on magazine and 25% profit on all nuts sold.  You must have a designated mom from your troop to be the Mag Nut representative and she must attend training class.   She will then go back to the troop and train the parents on the sale, collect the order forms and deliver to Jean, arrange for product pickup when it comes in, distribution to the troop members, then money collection and prize awards.  She must be a registered Girl Scout and have all clearances.

2. Daisy Event:  This is an event planned by a troop for all the Cranberry Service Area Daisies.  It can be any kind of fun activity and does not have to revolve around a badge.

 9. Cadette/Senior/Ambassador IP day:  This is an Interest Project badge day planned for the older girls.  It should include almost all of the IP requirements for the IP.  These badges are longer and more time consuming and are difficult to do in a day but every attempt should be made.  Some examples of this are the Fashion IP down at the Art Institute and the cooking IP at Creative Cooking.  A service project usually accompanies this badge.

10. Thinking Day:   This is an event planned and run by a troop for Thinking Day in February.   Each year on February 22 (or closest Friday to that date) , girls participate in activities, games and projects with global themes to honor their sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in other countries. It’s a craft/food fair and every troop chooses a country and makes/sells foods/crafts to represent those countries to earn money for the Juliette Lowe Fund to benefit Girl Scouts everywhere. A troop is needed to coordinate the event, obtain the meeting place, and organize the night.  A patch is usually ordered and sold for this night.  All troops may attend whether participating in Thinking Day or not.   Unfortunately, no siblings or extra people may attend due to the large size of this event.

Girls should bring some spending money and a tote bag or some other bag for their treasures.   Most crafts/foods cost .25-$1.00.  This is not a troop money making event.  All profits are donated to the Juliette Lowe fund.

11.  Mother Daughter:  this can be any fun event planned by a leader/troop mom/ troop for the Mothers and Daughters of all Cranberry Girl Scouts.  Some examples from the past are:  Halloween party, movie night, a Mother Daughter Tea, PJ party, Mudpie class. A fun patch is usually provided.

It is usually held in early June after school is out.  It is usually coordinated by several groups of people and is manageable when there are a lot of helpers.   It is a really fun event for the girls and they love it.

15. Mini Camp:  This is a neighborhood overnight camp for all age levels.  It is usually a weekend in July or August at one of the camp properties in the area.

16. Cookies:  this is our winter product sale and will be coordinated by our Treasurer, Jean Wilkinson.  You must have a cookie mom representative who must be a registered girl scout and have appropriate clearances.   She will collect and total orders, arrange for product pickup and distribution to the troop, fill out all paperwork, collect troop money and pickup prize awards for the girls.   Sale starts in January with cookie delivery usually in Feb/March.

 A Few Notes about Events:

  • If you decide to plan an event and find yourself unable to follow through with the event, please let the Service team/neighborhood know so that someone else can step up and plan one.  While we certainly understand if real life gets in the way, it’s not fair for the girls to miss out when an event is not planned as promised.
  • Feel free to be as creative as you like!   Don’t be afraid to toss out an idea or plan something new.  Just because something has been done the same way forever…does not mean it has to continue that way.
  • Please offer all events to the girls IN A TIMELY MANNER even if you do not plan to attend as a leader.  Other moms in the troop can step up as chaperones if needed.
  • Don’t be afraid to volunteer for planning an event.  We are here to help and guide you through the process and answer any questions.
  • Typically, older girls plan for an event one age level down.  For example:  Juniors will plan a daisy or brownie event, etc however Daisy leaders can plan a daisy event, etc if they wish.
  • Regarding sales events:  PLEASE do not start selling the product BEFORE the designated start date of the sale.  This is a Girl Scout rule to make it fair for every girl scout to sell nuts/cookies. Letting your family know that you are selling is of course allowed but please do not take actual orders before the date.
